CEC was in charge of centralized management of standard design on 10 specialties of railways for over 40 years, namely bridges, buildings, permanent way, subgrade, tunnels, mechanical equipment, locomotive equipment, rolling stock equipment, water supply and sewerage, and electrical works. As key developer, CEC worked out nearly 7000 standard designs, which occupies 80% of all standard designs, and 90% of turnout and bridge designs. For these great achievements, CEC won 130 national prizes, among which 35 prizes were for standard design, including 2 outstanding achievements prizes. Besides, CEC won 833 provincial prizes and CEC prizes, among which 179 were for standard design. CEC presided over or participated in preparation of many railway engineering codes, specifications, and design manual.
